The melon in my arms is about 22 lbs. - a good size but enough melon to keep L and I eating for days.
Did you know that you can tell when a watermelon is ready to be picked by looking at the first curly tendril on the vine nearest the melon? When it curls and browns, the melon is ready for picking. I like that much more than the myriad of odd ways to tell when cantaloupe, muskmelons, and honeydews are ready. Just one simple visual inspection and you are set to go.
Back to getting ready for the 5K this weekend.

ReplyDeleteOur pumpkin patch is late as well. It got no water in July and then has been flooded ever since. We have a couple of decent ones still hanging on though.
That's good to know, but since I buy them at the store, it still leaves me in the dark. ;)
ReplyDeletethat is a ridiculously large watermelon..I weigh about 98 pounds. That makes that watermelon almost a 1/4 of my entire body. Wow. lol

ReplyDeleteGood God! My wife doesn't like melon of any type so that thing would feed me for about a year. Hmmm, might rot first huh.

That is one big watermelon! Wow, I don't think I've seen anything that big in Japan. That's definitely a lot of melon to go through :)
